My Solo Journey in Chile: From Atacama to Patagonia

Chile is a country of spectacular contrasts, and my solo journey through these vast lands was an unforgettable adventure, which I’ve detailed in my book Under the Sky of Atacama. My itinerary began in San Pedro de Atacama, a small town in the driest desert in the world, where I explored breathtaking landscapes: wind-sculpted valleys of sand and rock, geysers that erupt at sunrise, and starry skies that seem to touch your soul.

From there, I crossed Chile to reach its southernmost tip, Patagonia. Torres del Paine was one of the most intense moments of my journey. I took on the famous O Circuit trek, a challenging but extraordinary route that led me through majestic mountains, towering glaciers, and turquoise lakes. Every step was a deep connection with the wild nature, and in those vast expanses of earth and sky, I found a sense of freedom I had never experienced before.

Continuing further south, I reached Punta Arenas, the southernmost city in Chile, a fascinating place rich in history. From there, I sailed the same waters as the legendary Magellan, exploring the straits that lead to the Penguin Sanctuary on Magdalena Island. My encounter with the Magellanic penguins was magical: seeing these creatures in their natural habitat, in such a remote land, made me feel part of a much larger and ancient world.

I’ve recounted every detail of this journey in my book Under the Sky of Atacama, a story of adventure, encounters, and reflections on travel as transformation.
