Today, I want to talk about a place that is both simple and incredibly special.
Have you ever slept in a eucalyptus forest surrounded by koalas and kangaroos?! Well, if you come to Australia, this is an experience not to be missed! And it’s all in complete harmony with nature.
At night, foxes roam the area, while during the day, a symphony of birds will accompany you, each with its own unique song. The intense scent of eucalyptus fills the air, blending with the serenity and tranquility of this untouched paradise
A hidden paradise in the heart of the Great Otway National Park, stretching from Torquay along the world-famous Great Ocean Road into the Otways hinterland. The campsite is near one of the region’s most fascinating attractions: Cape Otway.
The Cape Otway Lighthouse and Telegraph Station, built in 1848, is Australia’s oldest and most significant lighthouse and a highlight of the Great Ocean Road. Reaching it means stepping into a place rich in history and enjoying breathtaking views from the top.
If you stay at Bimbi Park, you can reach the lighthouse on foot via a beautiful walk through the eucalyptus forest. From there, various trails—ranging from short and easy to more challenging—allow you to explore the area on foot or by bike, embracing a sustainable travel approach.
For me, Bimbi Park is magical. Maybe it’s the scent of eucalyptus, or the fact that I pitched my tent under a eucalyptus tree and, when I looked up, a koala was watching me from above. Or perhaps it’s because, in the middle of the night, I woke up, stepped outside my tent, and found a kangaroo quietly grazing beside me under a sky filled with stars and the Milky Way.
A magical place, full of positive energy, yet simple, so simple. Isolated, yet functional. The bathrooms are colorful and clean, there’s a laundry, a large kitchen available, and a relaxation area with foosball, sofas, and books. There are picnic tables to dine with friends and family, and even a basketball area and places where to make fire by night. what’s better then stay sitted around a fire, chatting with friends under a starry sky?! It’s the perfect place to spend days immersed in nature and completely disconnect from the rest of the world (there’s no phone signal and the Wi-Fi doesn’t work! Perfect for a true social media detox…we all need it!!
A hidden paradise perfect for everybody
- Families: There are play areas for children and the chance to walk among the eucalyptus trees, spotting koalas—some curled up asleep, others climbing to the highest branches to grab the tastiest leaves.
- Groups of friends: Large picnic tables, mini golf, ping pong, basketball area and a common area with sofas and books.
- Nature and camping lovers: Large shared kitchens, designated fire pits, and well-maintained communal bathrooms with token-operated showers (the tokens are engraved with a kangaroo and a koala, adorable!)
From the campground, you can set off on spectacular trails that lead you on foot to Cape Otway Lighthouse and along a section of the Great Ocean Walk.
Koalas, kangaroos, foxes, birds, parrots… an incredible natural reserve, a place that will stay in your heart and that you won’t want to leave.
I will definitely be back!
